Product description

Seam sealer for silicone‑treated products, such as our Skjold tarps. The package includes a tube of seam sealer (30 g), an application brush, and an instruction sheet. We recommend testing your tarp before applying seam sealer; a specific combination of needle and thread is designed to prevent leakage through the seams. However, if you know you’ll be heading into harsh weather and prolonged rain, sealing the seams will ensure the tarp is fully waterproof. Seam sealing is not done by our production partners, as it is a time‑ and space‑consuming process.

How to apply seam sealer

  • Lay the tarp out flat with the inside facing up. Alternatively, hang the tarp outdoors and work on the inside.
  • Apply the seam sealer sparingly and use the brush to work it into the stitching and under the fabric fold.
  • Run your finger along the seam to press the sealer into the stitches while removing any excess.
  • Let the tarp dry for at least 24 hours. Silicone cures best in humid conditions; cold, dry air increases drying time, while warm, humid air speeds it up.

Additional tips

  • To avoid mess during application, you can place masking tape along both sides of the seam.
  • Having white spirit on hand can be helpful; it can be used to thin the sealer before application and to remove any excess that ends up where it shouldn’t.
  • A demonstration is available in this video, where Cedric shows the full process.
