Amok’s story begins with Jonas Haug, an outdoor enthusiast and engineer from Norway who refused to accept sleepless nights in the wilderness. During a sailing trip in the Caribbean, he discovered that traditional “banana-style” hammocks led to restless, uncomfortable nights. There had to be a better way.

What started as frustration quickly turned into curiosity - and then into invention. The idea stayed with him, and in 2012, while enrolled in a master’s program in Engineering and Entrepreneurship, Jonas began turning that idea into reality. It was there that Amok truly took shape, and the company was officially founded in 2013.

Redefining the Outdoor Experience

Since then, we’ve quite literally flipped the world of outdoor sleeping on its side. Our flagship product, the Draumr™, was a global game-changer. It was the first hammock of its kind to allow for a completely flat sleeping position, offering bed-like comfort regardless of the terrain below.
