The Amok Draumr hammock is designed to be used together with an inflatable sleeping pad for ultimate comfort and insulation. Together with the hammock structure, the inflatable pad gives the Draumr hammock its unique flat lay. You don't need an underquilt in the Draumr as the the pad insulates from below and keeps you warm. Inside the hammock there is a pocket that holds your sleeping pad in place.

Amok-liggeunderlag LW og XL

(The Draumr-XL hammocks must be used with one of our 87 in (220 cm) long sleeping pads), as shown to the right in the picture above.)

Draumr-hammocks in standard length (LW) must  be used with a sleeping pad that is approximately 78 x 25.5 x 3.5 in (198 cm x 65 cm x 9 cm) – these dimensions are known as the industry standard Long Wide (LW). This means that you can use the Draumr with one of our LW-pads, or you can use pads from other brands if they have the same size and construction. See further recommendations below.

Recommended

Liggeunderlag med langsgående luftekanaler passer best til Draumr-hengekøyene

Sleeping pads with tubes going lengthwise work better because they help stretch the hammock fabric. Make sure you use a rectangular pad, not a "mummy" shaped one.

Inflatable pads with tubes going across are not recommended. They can work if they have an especially firm structure. You can see a few recommendations on pads like this in the overview below.

Thin inflatable pads or regular foam pads will not work.

Sleeping pad recommendations:

A good tarp protects you and your gear from rain, wind, snow, and sun. Our Skjold tarps are designed for Draumr hammocks, but work just as well for regular hammocks or if you prefer to sleep directly on the ground. What makes Skjold work so well with Draumr is its asymmetrical shape and the fact that the tarp is longer at the foot end, thus covering Draumr with its unique construction. Skjold comes in two sizes, Skjold 10 is approximately 10 square meters, while Skjold 13 is 3 square meters larger.

  • Our Skjold tarps come with their own packing bag, 6 pegs, and two carabiners. Guylines and guyline holders are permanently attached to the tarp.
  • The color-coded carabiners indicate how to hang the tarp in Draumr mode.

What should you consider when choosing a tarp?

  • Which hammock do you have?
    • Both Skjold 10 and Skjold 13 work well with Draumr Double, but if you want a little more space for storing equipment and staying under the tarp next to your bed, Skjold 13 may be the best choice with Draumr Double.
  • Is weight and pack size important to you?
    • Skjold 10 is lighter and packs smaller than Skjold 13.
  • Forest and weather conditions
    • Skjold 13 is wider than Skjold 10 and therefore requires more distance between the suspension points. The sides of Skjold 13 can be closed inwards, like doors, giving you better protection in rough conditions.

Draumr 5.0 og Draumr UL share all the same features and refinements, chair mode, storage pockets, and a good, flat sleeping surface. What sets the hammocks apart is mainly the materials used.

  • Thinner and lighter fabric means that for the Draumr UL you can cut off a third of the weight of the Draumr 5.0, making it great choice for those going on longer hikes.
  • The lightweight fabric used in Draumr UL results in a smaller packsize and allows more wind to pass through the bivy – great features if you are spending the night in tropical conditions.
    • For winter-adventures the Draumr 5.0 might be a safer choice as the fabric will be more efficient towards winds and cold drafts.
  • The Ammolight fabric used in the Draumr UL makes the hammock partially transparent, which we think is pretty cool.

Is the Draumr Ultralight less durable than the Draumr 5.0?

The Draumr UL is a sturdy hammock, but that said, the Draumr 5.0 is made of stronger materials than the Draumr UL and is therefore slightly more robust. With normal use and care, the Draumr UL will last just as long as the Draumr 5.0, but if durability is an important selling point for you, we recommend going for the Draumr 5.0.

Damage to our hammocks is in most cases related to accidents, such as contact with sharp objects, embers from a campfire, etc. Regardless of which hammock you choose, it is important to exercise caution when hanging up and packing away your hammock.

If any of your equipment gets damaged, we can usually help with a repair. For guidance on what to do in case of an accident, check out our customer service FAQ.

Draumr 5.0 and Draumr UL are available in two lengths, standard length (LW) and extra long (XL).

Choose standard length if you're up to 5'11" (180 cm). Choose XL if you're over 5'11" (180 cm). Max user length is 6'11" (210 cm).

By choosing the correct length, you'll get a hammock that is...

...spacious for your height,

...where the foot end is within reach, making the bug net easy to open and close,

...that gives you a flat and balanced lay, and

...that supports your head, back and knees in chair mode.

If the hammock is too long it can be hard to fold the foot end into chair mode and sliding out of the seated position is common.

If the hammock is too short you loose some of the support under your legs, and when reclined you might experience that there is no support for your head.

The suspension straps for Draumr hammocks have a loop and a buckle. The strap is placed around the tree and threaded through the loop at the end, next the buckle is threaded through the compatible buckle on the hammock, it's that simple.

  • Color coding on the hammock indicates the direction for setup. Red on the left side and green on the right side when viewed from inside the hammock.
  • The tip of the triangular buckle should point towards the tree.
  • Pull the remaining end of the strap to tighten, pull the color-coded loop (red or green) to loosen.
  • For optimal setup, try to create a 30-45 degree angle from the hammock and towards the tree, at the bottom of the strap.
  • The most important thing for a good setup is that the ridgeline is tight and horizontal.
  • Adjust the position of the straps on the tree and/or try tightening or loosening the straps slightly to achieve this.

All our Fjøl sleeping pads come with a pump bag that attaches to the valve for efficient air filling. Take a look at the video below to see how the pump bag works. It is also possible to use electric pumps for our sleeping pads. For Winterlight and Ultralight, you need a pump with a diameter of approx. 21 mm, the valve in Fjøl is a couple of mm larger.

You will need to experiment a little to find the method that suits you best; we have seen many ways of doing this!

Take a look at the video below, which shows our preferred method for getting in and out of Draumr, with and without a sleeping bag. If you prefer written and graphic instructions, you will find them in our user manual.

  • Stand right next to the bunk, level with the trees it is hanging from.
  • Grasp the panels or straps on the inside of the bunk.
    • Press the bunk down and forward while sitting down in the middle of the bunk, level with the mesh pockets on the inside.
  • Keep one foot on the ground to dampen the swing of the hammock as you sit down.
  • Lift your other foot in and adjust your position according to the balance point. Hold on to the straps, panels, or ridgeline if it feels unstable.

One of the features that customers are most surprised and delighted by is the possibility to convert Draumr into a chair! You can go from lying down to sitting up in just ten seconds. See how to create chair mode in the video below or read on for step-by-step instructions.

  • Sit up in the hammock and move your center of gravity slightly backward. Try to lift as much weight as possible off the foot end before tightening the straps there.
    • Tighten the straps using both hands. Pull the end of the strap with one hand while assisting with the other.
  • Take both sides at the foot end first.
  • Lean forward slightly, take the weight off the back of the hammock while tightening the straps there in the same way.
  • Adjust the tightness to switch between chair, armchair, and sun lounger.

The Draumr hammock comes with suspension straps, aluminum poles for stretching out the fabric at the head and foot ends, a deck of cards, and stickers. The hammock also comes with a  bug net which is permanently attached to the hammock.

All Draumr hammocks come with two aluminum poles that are inserted into small pockets at the head and foot of the hammock. The poles help to stretch out the fabric of the hammock, this is especially relevant when the bug net is in use. It creates a more spacious feeling when you are in the hammock. If you arrive at camp and realize that you've left the poles at home, cut to length sticks will serve the same purpose.

The Draumr Double comes with two pairs of aluminum poles, one for each “bed".

Yes, all our Draumr hammocks come with bug nets, they are permanently attached in the right-hand corner. Three sliders on the zipper make it easier to create openings where you want them. The mosquito net is made from Ammolight 20 fabric, which is very durable and keeps out both gnats and mosquitoes. The bug net is deployed above the ridgeline so that you can access it from inside the hammock, meaning you can hang packing bags and similar items from the ridgeline even when the bug net is in place.

Draumr has several pockets and storage options for the things you need to have close at hand. With small carabiners, you can hang up a lamp or an extra pack bag from the ridgeline, for example. In the corner, there is a pocket suitable for storing shoes. The bottle holder can hold a 1-liter bottle, and the small mesh pockets have room for a cell phone or a small book. A little tip from us is to put the clothes you bring with you into the hammock, behind the side panels, that way they stay in place and you get a little extra insulation on the perimetere of the sleeping pad.

In the Draumr Double, you have one corner pocket each + your own mesh pocket and bottle holder.
